Summer's here! Sales and News -
There are certain jobs best done in the summer: like dyeing yarn,
dyeing wool, and washing wool.
With that in mind, here are some yarns waiting to be dyed.
1. Undyed Sock yarn: We continue to have great prices on sock yarn.
The Merino/Nylon at $23.68 per pound.
Merino/Tencel at a great price
New Product: Super wash 100% Merino sock yarn
We also has a Merino/Silk yarn in worsted weight. It is a
beautiful, luxury yarn, priced at $11 for 4 oz.
2. Dyeing basics: Take advantage of summer on dye, dye, dye.
We have Gaywool dyes for simple, colorfast and safe dyeing of protein fibers (wool, silk, mohair). They require no mixing and you place your yarn in the hot water bath for 30 minutes at "tea temperature" (about 170 degrees) and you have it. Rinse in out and you are done.
For those wanting to do the whole process as our ancestors did, we have a great supply of alum, chrome, tin, iron and copper for mordants on the Natural Dye page.
Check out the Dyeing books section
for the full spectrum of dyeing books available and then look at the natural dyes we carry.
3. For the best results in washing wool and your nice woolens use Wool Wash for scouring wool and Meadows Fibermaster for your nice finished goods. Both are terrific products that leave them feeling soft and with a very mild clean fragrance.
4. NEW WOOL - our colored Romney is being offered for sale for
the first time. This is so exciting. Our first wool from our Registered Naturally Colored Romneys has come back from the mill. We have light gray and dark gray. It is very soft lambs wool. We also have a new shipment of white Romney.
5. Knitting Book Sale - WE HAVE TOO many books. Help us cut down on our inventory. Until August 15 all knitting books in stock will be sold at 15% off. Check out the selection on the Knitting Book Page.
6. Yarntainers: This is a great new product. There is no reason to have your precious yarn mangled by pets or grandchildren. No one needles to sit on your little sock needles and break them. Does this sound like the voice of experience?
I have enjoyed have my knitting project in an easy to see through container that I can easily take in and out without having to figure out where I left off. With the last yarn you pulled before you knitted flowing coming out the top, you are always ready to knit again.
They come in 5 sizes.
